My name is Sara Wachter and I have known the Hacker family since 2003, when Jonathan enrolled in my preschool. As the founding Director of Duchesne Preschool, I have had the joy of watching Jonathan and Lauren Hacker grow from timid preschool children to confident, creative, and caring young adults. My bond with the Hackers deepened 6 years ago when Lauren was diagnosed with Pediatric AML, and I tutored her at Children’s Hospital throughout her 5th grade year. The resilience of this child is nothing short of miraculous, and the faith and strength of her family has helped to save her life.
I was born and raised in Omaha, attending St. Margaret Mary grade school, Duchesne Academy, and then went off to Saint Mary’s of Notre Dame for college. I taught a year in Chicago before returning to Omaha in 1984, where I taught for 16 years at Christ The King and Belle Ryan (OPS). During that time I earned my Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, and in 1998 was asked to come “home” to Duchesne to found the preschool.
Outside of work, I tend to love to nurture: animal and gardening fill my life with joy! I am also passionate about music, and have spent the last 30 years singing in the Omaha Symphonic Chorus, the Opera Omaha Chorus, for countless weddings and funeral, and regularly for Saint Margaret Mary’s Church. I am honored to be part of LoLo’s Angels, and will not quit working until we find a cure for Pediatric AML
